PRESIDENT

The Heinz Endowments invites nominations and applications for the position of President.

With its Board approving approximately $70 million in grants annually, The Heinz Endowments (THE) is among the largest independent philanthropic organizations in the United States. Based in Pittsburgh, THE was formed in 2007 from the board merger of the Howard Heinz Endowment, established in 1941, and the Vira I. Heinz Endowment, established in 1986.

Its mission is to help southwestern Pennsylvania thrive as a whole community - economically, ecologically, educationally, culturally, and from a public health perspective - while advancing the state of knowledge and practice in the fields in which it works. The fields of emphasis include philanthropy in general and the disciplines represented by five grant-making programs: Arts & Culture; Children, Youth & Families; Education; Economic & Community Development; and Environment. THE has also focused over time on a number of cross-disciplinary initiatives that address significant community issues and that serve as models and laboratories for national philanthropy, including early childhood education, cultural district development, programs focused on African American men and boys, and place-based grant-making.

Reporting to the Chairman and the Board of Directors, the President has overall responsibility for managing the day-to-day activities of the organization. He/she is accountable for the strategic, programmatic, fiscal, and management operations of the organization while serving as the ambassador to the community. He/she must be astute at utilizing the skills, talents, experiences, and interests of Board members for the benefit of the organization. The Endowments employs approximately 32 full-time equivalent staff. The President's direct reports include five Program Directors, plus the Chief Financial Officer / Chief Investment Officer, Director of Communications, Director of Human Resources and an executive office staff.
